How long ago was it that rainbow-themed parties kept popping up all over Blogland? My records indicate somewhere around March or May. At any rate, guess which crafty mother fell in love with that theme and has since been biding her time and planning for a special day in the middle of September? Now guess which lucky soon-to-be five year old is going to have a kick-astronaut rainbow birthday party? (No, there's no outer space theme thrown in there. The substitution of "astronaut" for a three letter a-word is something my sisters and I thought was pretty clever back in the day. I still think it's clever.)
Here's something else I think is clever: little crochet cupcakes. One in each color of the rainbow.
Technically not every color of the rainbow. I forwent the whole ROY G. BIV thing in favor of an even number and a simple purple instead of getting all specific with indigo and violet.
The yellow cupcake is my favorite. It's so bright and cheery! I used an Ana Paula Rimoli pattern from Amigurimi World. I didn't do the face, though, because the black eyes that I had didn't show up very well against the dark brown fabric. Not as cute, but more realistic. As realistic as a cupcake made from yarn can get, I suppose.
I know I'm going to use them as decoration at the birthday party, and they'd also make nice party favors. However, there will be more than six kids in attendance...so maybe they'll be prizes for games or something. (You'd think I'd have that all figured out by now since I've been planning this party for nigh on six months.)
I hope you're down with the rainbow theme because it's about to get all Lisa Frank up in here. If you were shopping for school supplies in the 80's and early 90's you know what I'm talking about.

I love love love these! They are so cute! And I think they are perfect without a face. I don't know why but I do not like faces on food. Even if it is crocheted! :-) It looks much better without face. And the colors you picked are awesome. Am curious what you're party will be like! And am glad that I am not the only person in this world who is capable of planning an event for months and still not having it figured out shortly before ... :-) I am VERY good at that!

Lisa Frank! Hahaha, she was sooo cool when I was a kid. I actually just saw some of her products at the Dollar Tree. *sigh* If only she would've been available there when I was in 3rd grade, right? She wasn't just a dollar when I was a kiddo.
ReplyDeleteThe cupcakes are absolutely adorable! I really need to learn how to crochet. My mom was always SO good at it! Hope you have a lovely weekend. Take care!
Love, Laura

Ha, ha, I TOTALLY follow you with the Lisa Frank reference! The cupcakes are super adorable and I am always envious of the talent when I see little Amigurimi creations. So super sweet and a fun pretend play prop. But since I have yet to learn how to make such things I'll have to be content with buying mine. I did get super cute donuts for ER's kitchen, but they were expensive!!! Thank you for joining us at A Crafty Soiree! I hope to see you next week too!
ReplyDeleteMegan you are a crafter of so many talents! Your cupcakes are so sweet... and that green mixer-- I LOVE it. Thanks for linking your talent up to A Crafty Soiree
